I received an ARC via The Hype PR in exchange for an honest review. However I can honestly say I can't wait to purchase the book myself. Based on the synopsis I was not sure what to expect. I was drawn in instantly! I was surprised at Bay (Basil Harper) because in spite of her sheltered existence she bravely moves to the city and takes a job completely out of her comfort zone. Bay is such a kind and caring soul that I kept hoping she wouldn't be hurt. I loved the balance of her choice in work and her future career as an artist. She seemed to have her future planned out....until Van Hollis.
Van was a mystery wrapped in caution tape and barbed wire....everything about him screamed that Bay should stay away but she couldn't. Bay was the right one for Van even if he didn't know it. She was the light in the darkness of his neighborhood and his life. Not saying it was all smooth sailing or that there wasn't some major challenges in their path but they did click as the perfect other half of each other.
The story kept me eager to see where things were headed and how it could ever possibly work out. It was great to see how Bay was able to get Van to share more with her the longer they were together.
The over all story was a balance in the grey areas of life...there was good and bad in a lot of the characters and it was interesting to see. I wasn't always sure which way some of them might be. I enjoyed the book and will recommend it to my reading friends, especially those that love suspense.
