I was very intrigued when I read a blurb about this book and can honestly say it was a great read. The story was very well paced and had me reading straight through, I could not put the book down until I was finished.
Phoenix was such a strong woman. Even with all the turmoil in her life she was determined to keep going and not cave. She didn't take a lot of crap from Jaeger even from their first meeting at shotgun point no less to when he asks a serious question but at completely the wrong time.
Jaeger has only known the rough side of life. He didn't know in his own words romance, pretty or soft. Even without knowing any of those he did know how to protect and he learned how to care in a short amount of time.
I was not sure given the rocky start to them meeting if they could get it together. They were both so different but yet had things in common as well. Phoenix or Nix was so easy for Jaeger to get riled up. Jaeger had the worst tendency to speak whatever he thought even if it wasn't the most appropriate.
I will definitely be looking for more books by Margaret McHeyzer. I really enjoyed the pace of the story and the characters. I will also recommend this book to my friends.
I would give this book 4 1/2 stars.
